WHY EXTREME BEARING?
EXTREME BEARING HAS BEEN DEVELOPED TO ELIMINATE THE NEED FOR THE FREQUENT MAINTENANCE OF BEARINGS
A chain is only as strong as its weakest link. So even if the bearing insert itself is made of chrome steel or strong stainless steel, in many industrial applications the housing is frequently made of plastic or lower grade stainless steel (304).
These combinations are then usually sealed with plastic caps, with or without seals, in order to keep out contaminants. In practice, it has often been found that these systems are not adequate.
External factors such as moisture and alignment errors impact negatively on the bearing system requiring the premature replacement of parts.
Traditional bearing units all contain ball-bearing inserts fitted with a spherical outer ring. The idea is that the bearing is self-aligning. However, this is not always the case in practice.
What usually happens is that the force on the shaft holds the outer ring firmly in the bearing housing, making it impossible to move and adjust itself. The forces generated cause damage to the balls, inner ring and ball race. Ultimately the bearing unit has to be replaced.
We developed the Extreme Bearing system on the basis of knowledge and experience gained in everyday practical situations.

SUITABLE FOR EXPANSION AND CONTRACTION OF THE SHAFT
The seats are machined to a tolerance to provide a loose fit.
The bearing seats in the housings are sufficiently wide to allow axial displacement of the bearing and to accommodate for thermal expansion of the shaft due to high temperatures, such as on a baking conveyor belt.
The Extreme Bearing blocks can absorb expansion of the shaft because there is an adjustment or locating ring in the bearing housing. The locating ring can be removed from a bearing block of a pair placed opposite each other so that axial displacement is possible.

Declumping is the mechanical process of separating mussels by tearing apart the mussel clumps.
In an application like this, the extremely high specifications of the Extreme Bearing are what is required: durable bearing housing, rust resistant, water resistant, capacity to withstand heavy forces and axial force.
This is the industry for which the original Extreme Bearing was developed simply because ordinary bearings were wearing out too fast. In the Dutch seaside town of Yerseke where mussels are a big industry, experience shows that a normal bearing lasts three months whereas the Extreme Bearing lasts three years or more on average before it needs replacement.

The application of special seals and a grease filling into the housing contributes to a perfectly sealed housing.

Extreme Bearings provide a long working lifetime for applications in hard-to-reach places where maintenance needs to be reduced to a minimum.

EXTREME BEARINGS COPE WITH CONDITIONS IN MUSSEL PROCESSING
THE BEARING IS HEAVILY LOADED AND CONTINUOUSLY SPRAYED WITH SEAWATER.
Grit, sand and shells gather between the conveyor frame and the pillow block of the bearing. Add to this the constant presence of salt water around the bearing.
Thanks to the 316 stainless steel bearing and centrifugal seals, the Extreme Bearing has been running in this exposed position for many years without maintenance.
EXTREME BEARING USED ON SHRIMP PEELING MACHINE
LONG BENDING AXES, AXIAL FORCE AND HIGH SPEED
When conveyor belts to be tensioned over rollers with long thin axes as in a shrimp peeling machine, the roll will bend and thereby will hurtle the shaft ends. Extreme Bearing will absorb misalignment without generating force in the bearing. This ensures a long bearing working life.
