Internal Sealing - Triple Protection for Bearing Units

Triple Protection to Shield the Bearing!

Bearing illustration

Extreme Bearing housings can be chosen equipped with a Double-row spherical roller bearing or a Single-row spherical roller bearing. The advantage of the Single-row spherical roller bearing is that this bearing type is sealed by itself.

Two Bearing Insert Types

Type T – Self-aligning Double Row Spherical Roller Bearings

Bearing illustration

Traditional double-row design without integrated seals, relies on external housing seals for protection.

Type E – Self-aligning Single Row Spherical Roller Bearings

Advanced single-row design with integrated 2-RS bearing seals, providing internal protection as part of the bearing itself.

Triple Barrier Bearing Labyrinth Seal

Bearing illustration

The Type E bearing seals are designed to provide an extra barrier to prevent contamination from entering the bearing.

First Barrier: The housing seal made of rubber attached to the shaft provides a primary barrier.

Second Barrier: The bearing housing is filled with grease to prevent contaminants from entering and damaging the bearing.

Third Barrier: There is a type of bearing seal called 2-RS to protect the bearing internally.

Type E Bearing Advantages

Type E Bearing with 2-RS Internal Seals

As standard, Type E bearings feature 2-RS bearing seals which differentiate this type from the unsealed Type T double row spherical roller bearings. These Type E bearing seals and the lubricant are integrated into one system, so that the bearing can be kept sealed and greased for its lifetime without the need to refill.

The grease nipple on the bearing housing is intended to fill the rest of the Extreme Bearing housing with grease and so prevent water and contaminants from entering.

An Extreme Bearing unit with a Type E insert offers superior triple protection from harsh environments and extreme conditions!

Triple Protection System

Grease Flow in Type E Bearing Unit

Grease Flow in Type E Bearing Unit

  1. Bearing Housing Seals - External rubber seals on shaft
  2. Grease-filled Housing - Housing completely filled with protective grease
  3. Bearing Insert Seals (2-RS) - Internal seals integrated into the bearing itself

When to Choose Type E Bearings

Comparison: Type T vs Type E

Feature Type T (Double Row) Type E (Single Row)
Bearing Type Double-row spherical roller Single-row spherical roller
Internal Seals No (open bearing) Yes (2-RS seals)
Protection Layers 2 (housing seals + grease) 3 (housing seals + grease + bearing seals)
Maintenance Regular regreasing Lifetime lubrication
Best For Heavy loads, standard conditions Extreme conditions, max protection
